Permanent Madder Deep is the cool red in my minimum, basic 6-color palette.

It’s a less expensive, and more lightfast substitute for legacy color *Alizarin Crimson which is known to fade &/or shift in hue in very light tints (as do some “Permanent” Alizarin Crimsons).


Permanent Madder Deep mixed with French Ultramarine Blue makes a good, lightfast purple.

*Rembrandt doesn't offer any version of Alizarin Crimson in their professional oil line.
